Rules & Regulations

Results and Awards

Unofficial results may be viewed on the website of the race timer drkomputing.com as early as the evening of the Marathon. Official results are posted on the canoemarathon.com website within a few days of the race and can be reviewed for Marathons since 2000. Awards are presented to the first, second and third place finishers in each class, except NO CONTEST, at a Finish Line ceremony at 3:00 p.m. First place awards are the historic Voyageur statue; second and third place awards are medallions. First, second and third place awards will be presented to Best Decorated Craft.

All finishers may pick up their souvenir patch recognizing their participation, and those individuals who had ordered a tee shirt can retrieve their shirt at the same station. Extra shirts may be purchased for $10 at the Finish Line on a size-available basis.

If as the race proceeds, you believe that you (and your partner) may be in contention for an award, but are unable to remain at the Finish Area for the 3:00 Awards Ceremony, you may ask a friend to accept your award and convey it to you at a later time. Please so notify a race official at the Finish Line. Alternatively, you may leave with a race official the cost of mailing an award to you: First place trophy = $10; two first place trophies = $20; second or third place medallions (one or two) $5. Unclaimed awards will be mailed within a couple days after the race, provided that pre-payment has been received. Winners of unclaimed awards will be notified by email of any further mailing costs.

The Participants

Only amateur contestants, as defined by U.S.C.A. and I.P.C. may enter. All participants are required to sign a waiver of liability. Each contestant under the age of 18 must also have a parent or guardian's signature on the waiver of liability.

Any participant who violates the rules and regulations set forth on this website will be subject to disqualification at the discretion of the race officials.

Safety and Life Jackets (PFD)

Each contestant will be required to have a Coast Guard approved PFD in his possession during the entire race. In case of high water, race officials may require contestants to wear their life jackets. A PFD must be worn by all non-swimmers and all participants under the age of 14.

All boats must carry a whistle or sounding device. First aid supplies will be available at Start and Finish Line areas. Emergency communication is available at each bridge.
